The events that have unfolded in our country over the past week have rocked our nation to the core. Emotions sparked by the senseless death of George Floyd in Minneapolis have ignited protests, both peaceful and violent, following centuries of racial injustice. We see this playing out in our communities across the United States, including right here in York. We must strive to understand the bigger picture – the reasons for these raw emotions – if we are to move forward. Understanding starts with me, with you, with each one of us.
At Traditions Bank, we will not tolerate hatred, racism, or oppression. We believe in equitable treatment for all people regardless of the color of their skin, whom they love, what they believe, gender, or any other characteristic that makes one person different than the next. We believe that a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and identities strengthens our community and enriches our lives. We are committed to diversity and inclusion. It is the right thing to do.
While the world continues to struggle with the ugliness of racism, we can do something today. If you think someone is hurting, simply let them know you care. By recognizing our biases, constructively taking a stand, demonstrating compassion, and praying for peace and love, we can make a difference.
